The General Secretariat is responsible for planning, coordination and controlling, it acts as a hub between the federal offices and the head of the department and provides consultaney services for the entire department. Its legal service supervises charitable national and international foundations.

The Federal Commission against Racism, the Service for Combating Racism and the Bureau for the Equality of People with Disabilities are affilated to the General Secretariat.
