Data and statistics

Ensuring transparency over Switzerland – this is a key goal of federal statisticians. Their data and quantitative information help make sense of the present and plan for the future.

For fact-based democratic debates

As the national competence centre for official statistics, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) produces and publishes key statistical data on the status and development of Switzerland. The FSO complements its data with analyses and develops scenarios for future developments. The results are mainly provided through digital channels – in the form of data cubes, tables or indicators, often accompanied by explanatory texts and, increasingly, by interactive graphics and maps. The statistical information on Switzerland is objective, well researched and internationally comparable. It therefore provides an important foundation for fact-based democratic debates.

Centre of competence in the data ecosystem

The FSO not only produces statistics – it is increasingly becoming a key hub in Switzerland’s data ecosystem as well. In addition to its core remit (producing statistics), the FSO is taking on an enhanced coordination and service role for public administration. By combining statistics, data management and data science, valuable insights can be gained. With these services, the FSO helps to drive digital transformation within public administration.
