The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) establishes the necessary conditions for ensuring that food is safe and that consumers are protected against being misled. The FSVO also promotes healthy eating. It ensures a high standard of animal welfare and animal health in Switzerland and monitors cross-border trade in food and animals. In addition, it ensures that animals are free from animal diseases, particularly ones that could pose a risk to humans. The office supports market liberalisation and represents Switzerland’s interests in international bodies. It also monitors trade in protected species.
