Like other leisure activities, sport can promote integration and help people to handle conflict in a constructive manner. Diversity is a reality in the sporting world, especially that of football.
Racism and discrimination can impede access to social and sporting activities, for example, by consciously or unconsciously excluding individuals on the basis of their nationality, religion or skin colour. Clubs and associations are called upon to promote diversity among their members.
Awareness of the potentially positive effects of sport on the health and integration of immigrants has risen in the public consciousness, as is demonstrated by dedicated projects that combat racial discrimination in sport.
