Health is a central aspect of our daily lives and is important to us both as individuals and to society as a whole. The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.
According to the WHO, the aim of health promotion is to enable people to take on greater responsibility for and therefore improve their own health. Health promotion is therefore a positive concept which emphasises the importance of both social and individual resources for our health and our physical capabilities.
The Federal Office of Public Health FOPH in the Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA is responsible at federal level for all issues relating to health, health insurance and accident insurance - with the aim of promoting the health of all people living in Switzerland.
